Move over Randy Jackson, there might just be a cooler dawg in town…
The Georgia Bulldogs, represented by their costumed mascot “Hairy Dawg”, and Uga the Bulldog (Uga VII is the latest of the much-loved pedigree), has gotten into a monumental rivalry with the Auburn Tigers. The rivalry, coined as the “Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry” dates back to 1892 when Auburn won over the Bulldogs 10-0. In the 1980’s, they had also gotten into a rivalry with the Clemson Tigers.
The much anticipated Georgia-Florida game is held every year in Jacksonville Florida, which has been proclaimed to be a neutral area. However, many “dawgs” protested against the location, saying that the venue was within close proximity of two Universities that favored Florida. In spite of the contentions from the Georgia side, University Athletic directors extended the agreement for the games to be held in Jacksonville until 2010. The game is crucial to all Georgia alumni and students, more so since Florida caught up with the Bulldogs between 1990 and 2003 at 15-1. Georgia had evened up the series in 2004 and 2007 while the Florida Gators won in 2005 and 2006.
